Know Your Birds Well

We all know that every character in the game is unique, and knowing the personality of each one of them will help you a lot throughout the game. And I don’t only mean their special moves, but also their strengths and weaknesses.

For example, we can accelerate a Yellow Bird’s speed by tapping the screen while it’s still in the air. We can use this ability to reach difficult and far away places. The Yellow Birds are also strong against wood, so use them to break through wood structures.  Black Birds are literally flying bombs so use them to smash through concrete structures.

Try Different Angles – Literally

If your efforts to knock down the structure from one angle ended up in failure, try different angles. Don’t be afraid to hit the repeat button. Repeat the effort and learn from the mistakes. Don’t let the mistakes frustrate you.

Observe The Environment & Take Notes

Continuing from the previous point, you can use the background environment to help locate the perfect “action point”.

For example, take note of the position of your finger (or mouse pointer) when you launch the bird. If the attack is successful, remember the position and move on to the next bird. Or take note of the bird position in the air when you tap the screen to activate its special move, so you can repeat it if necessary. This step really helps me every time I use the Boomerang Bird.

Think Outside The Box

Creativity. You don’t always have to do everything by the book. For example, there are times when you simply use the White Bird to hit a part of the structure without having to drop the bomb. Or situations when you have to shoot the Boomerang Bird backward and let it curve in order to hit the otherwise unreachable target.

Seek & You Shall Find

When you are stuck, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your friends are just a phone call away. Socializing is always a good way to take a break from the endless gaming hours. The Internet is also a wealthy place to find discussions, tutorials, and walkthroughs to help you overcome difficult levels. A quick search will give you plenty of links to visit, but my favorite places for my Angry Birds needs are Rovio’s YouTube Channel and AngryBirdsNest.

Cross Your Fingers

Luck plays a heavy part in Angry Birds. Once in a while, you’ll make an unrepeatable lucky shot and are able to complete the level with flying colors.

I know. It’s weird to put “luck” as one of the tips to reduce the frustration level in playing games. But sometimes, luck is all it takes to put the smile back into your stressful and frustrated face. So, always keep your finger crossed throughout the game.

Don’t Get Angry, Have Fun

 In the end, the one thing you have to remember is that this is just a game. It’s silly to get so worked up over a game so have fun. If the fun is taken out of the game, then there’s no point in playing it.

Check out the Lunar New Year celebration happening in Chinatown for stunning visuals, tantalizing treats and impressive performances. This street party features all sorts of vendors, food and festivities for all ages.  Outsider Art Fair
January 27–29
The Outsider Art Fair was the first to give a voice to talented artists outside the mainstream. Today, 20 years later, the fair still showcases those who create work that is “visionary, intuitive, primitive and self-taught in nature”—and while the fair has moved around over the years, many of its original dealers are still going strong. Expect more than sellers on hand at this year’s event.

Dance on Camera Festival
January 27–31
The Dance on Camera Festival is precisely that—a celebration of the artistry of dance in cinema. The festival features premieres, repertory films and little-seen foreign fare, along with a number of panel discussions and Q&A sessions. The festival takes place at multiple locations.

Check to see if any friends, family, classmates, professors, or NYU alumni have inside knowledge of the organization, and evaluate all of the information carefully.

 Practice, Practice, Practice

It is imperative that you think about what you want to say before meeting face to face with an interviewer. The more you rehearse and plan your strategy, the better chance you have of selling your skills and qualifications to the employer.

 Plan Ahead

Make sure you know the exact location of the interview and the correct pronunciation of the interviewer’s name.

Plan on arriving about 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

 At the Interview

RELAX and BE CONFIDENT

DOs:

• Have a firm handshake and make eye contact.
• Dress appropriately, considering the industry:
  Women – this can include a traditional suit (skirt and jacket), pantsuit, or dress and stockings. Wear neutral colors and avoid busy prints. Choose shoes with a moderate heel.
  Men – this can include a neutral color business suit with a tie (both should be conservative).
• Keep jewelry to a minimum (avoid large jewelry that might distract from what you are saying).
• Make sure your hair is not in your face and does not hide your eyes.
• Arrive neatly dressed and clean.
• Use make-up in moderation.

DON’Ts:

• Smoke, chew gum, or drink.
• Use profanity.
• Be overly casual in dress or manner.
• Discuss details of your personal life.
• Ever bad mouth a former employer.
• Have your cell phone/beeper on.
• Wear perfume or cologne.
• Address interviewers by their first name unless you are invited to do so.
• Sit down unless you are invited to do so, or until the employer/interviewer has done so first.

You may remember 26th Floor resident Mike Sullivan from this Halloween as Iceman and winner of the Founders Hall Costume Contest. When he’s not covered in blue latex paint, Mike’s busy studying Biology and playing on the NYU Quidditch team. Mike also competes nationally in Magic Card tournaments, recently in the Magic Pro Tour Qualifier. Always kind, enthusiastic and funny, stop by and say hi to Mike on the 26th floor because he is AWESOMMMEEEE!

Hello Everyone!

It was an EXTREMELY close race, but I am please to announce that our new Secretary will be Vicente Ochoa!  Please join us in extending your congratulations to him!

In other news, our first GA meeting of the semester will be on Tuesday, January 31st @ 10pm in the 4th Floor Lounge!  I hope to see you all there, enjoy the last days of break!

Founders Hall is getting wireless EVERYWHERE!!

ITS wireless cable technicians will be working within Founders Hall Dorm installing wireless service. Work will start Friday, January 27th, 2011 and will continue for approximately 10 weeks Monday thru Friday from 8:00 to 4:00pm with dorm room access starting after 10:00am. Cable technicians will be working within hallways and dorm rooms installing cab…les, jacks, and wire-molding. Some drilling on ceilings will be necessary for cabling installing and wire-molding. There may be some noise and dust during this process. Technicians will make every effort to keep areas clean within dorm rooms. .
