WHAT IS THE VIOLET LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE?
The Violet Leadership Institute is a yearlong program designed to establish strong connections for residential students between their curricular, co-curricular, community, and residential experiences. The program is founded around the notions that all who wish to can become strong leaders, and that engagement is critical to successful leadership. Foundations of the Social Change Model of Leadership and the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services Learning Outcomes guide this certificate. Violet Institute Participants will develop a clear understanding of their leadership style and how it impacts themselves and their communities. Participants will explore these concepts in the areas of career, service, and social identity, and will continue to enrich their experience by working with a mentor throughout the program. The Violet Leadership Institute is designed to empower students, help them build connections, and to cultivate transferable and useful skills. The Violet Leadership Institute is cost free.
WHEN DOES THE INSTITUTE BEGIN?
The program kicks off on September 26th at 7:30pm and is quickly followed by an off-campus leadership retreat September 28th and 29th.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL BE REQUIRED OF PARTICIPANTS?
In addition to attendance at the retreat, participants meet as a large group on the first Monday of each month at 7:30pm, and will meet with their designated mentors at least once per semester. Other time commitments will be determined by participants and can be as little as a few hours a month.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any undergraduate student living in NYU housing is eligible to apply for one of the 30 spots in the program. There is no requirement to already be involved in a leadership position. All accepted students must be on campus for both fall and spring semesters in order to participate.
